Finding your inner anarchist artist!!

Often I make political comments with my guerrilla art, but more often now I let the medium itself be the political act.  I get out and pitch my voice against the dominant voices of the corporations and the often oppressive Government under which I live, questioning and challenging what I am ‘allowed’ to do.

The thing is, my art beautifies a space that is often soulless and without character.  I inject new life.

I encourage you to do the same!!!  Being a graffiti artist is secretive and exciting.  There is a great feeling when you go out and place an anonymous gift to the public in the dead of night, or even in the middle of the day.

Be mindful though, that your gift is ephemeral, non-permanent.  Creating art that is impermanent helps you release your attachment to your final product and fees you to focus on the process.

But, what do you want to say?  What makes you angry, what moves you to tears?  Be irreverent.  Use your every day life to inform your art and make what you have to say uniquely your own.

Will it be ‘legal’?  Well that is up to you.  I do question why I am forced to consume ad after bloody ad in space that is public, and yet it is illegal for me to have my say.  But I do adhere to the common sense saying, ‘If you can't do the time, don't do the crime’.  Do your art in a way that doesnt damage, do your art in a way that sits on the surface, or do your art on surfaces that are easy to clean like glass.    If you get caught, you can clean them off with a razor blade in a few minutes.  Been finger printed?  "Hell yeh, I’ve lived, Ive had by prints taken"; then wear gloves and if you wear plastic or rubber gloves DON'T discard them at the scene!

Lastly, watch out for security cameras, police and nosey parkers.  Ive been chased by passers-bye that took umber-age to my beautification projects.

Keep a look out for future posts on barely-illegal if not down right legal graffiti projects to do with your family!

Stewart.
